Minimising Fire Loss
Other Fire Protection & Heat Detection Newsheets
The single largest cause of COMMERCIAL + INDUSTRIAL FIRES regrettably remains .ARSON!
The most modern electronic fire and security systems supported in many cases by high profile 24/7 policing, help minimise the risk to operators and consumers alike. However, as electronic detection and monitoring systems become more + more sophisticated - so do the methods employed by arsonists to maximise
( without detection ) their disruption to our everyday lives and financial security!
Railway Stations, Shopping Malls, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Education Establishments, Office Blocks, Airport Terminals, Museums, Palaces, Dance Halls,...
These, and many similar areas, are all major targets of those thankfully "few" individuals that are determined, at best - to upset daily routines, and at worst - to cause maximum damage to capital investment and loss of human life!
It is impossible to put an accurate financial value on a human life, or to reliably estimate the total financial cost to a business that suffers the resultant material replacement costs, AND in many cases, much larger operating downtime losses as a direct result of a FIRE.
International Fire Protection system designers and Consultant engineers are AT LAST realising that there is a cost effective way of integrating the features and benefits of many different detection devices in ONE SYSTEM
to further enhance Fire Detection Capabilities AND help fight the battle against Arson
.
by utilising DIGITAL LINEAR HEAT DETECTION!
Any Central Fire Detection system, which includes a combination of automatic point type detection and manual call point zones, is believed to provide "the best of both worlds"!
However, it has been repeatedly proven that there can exist a number of circumstances where conditions can be such that
for example - air pressure in a corridor can prevent the progression of any low level smoke to the ceiling mounted point type detector - and in doing so, therefore prevent its detection. Similarly, manually operated devices of course require that they be actuated by personnel at site who have physically been alerted to a fire condition - a situation which becomes increasingly unlikely during "out of office " hours!
By WIRING the automatic detectors AND / OR manual call points with digital linear heat detection cable, an ADDITIONAL automatic local detection capability is being introduced into the system at little extra cost! After all, if cable has to be used to connect point detectors and wire manual call points, then why not use a cable which is ALSO capable of detecting and signalling an abnormal temperature in its own right !! In a large number of zones, this could place the heat sensitive cable at low level and / or close to the origin of the fire / overheat condition.
When you add the digital linear detection system "alarm point location" facility, you further increase site protection and minimise alarm re-action times by identifying exactly where the fire / overheat has occurred along a zone, and even possibly identify at the Central Fire Control Panel, whether the origin of the alarm is a) the linear sensor cable , b) the point type detector or c) the manual call point !!!
