Interface Unit - ZI-06

A loop wired interface unit which provides continued operation in the event of an open or short circuit condition occuring on the CAT5 monitoring loop (maximum 20,000 metres length).
A maximum of 64 "zone boxes" can be installed on the ZI-06 "Host unit" monitoring loop - maximum 1000 metres distance between zone boxes. Each zone box can be connected to locally installed sensor cable of maximum 2000 metres length. Total 128,000 metres of sensor cable (64 x 2000 metres) connection to a single "host unit".
In the event of simultaneous alarm conditions occuring, the host unit will scroll through each alarm signal identifying the zone box in alarm and the alarm point location on the sensor cable installed within that zone. In addition, common alarm output contacts will operate together with an additional output dedicated to the zone in alarm ( i.e. 1 output from the host unit for each zone box connected).
Alarm conditions occuring after detection of an open or short circuit fault condition on the CAT5 loop cable will still be detected by the host unit and onward signalled by that unit to the customer central control panel.
Alarm notification at each zone box is also provided by colour coded LED's (Green –Normal, Amber –Fault, Red – Alarm).

HOST UNIT
An IP65 polycarbonate or optional carbon fibre enclosed module for operation from a locally monitored and dedicated nominal 24vdc supply. The “HOST” unit provides continuous monitoring for a maximum of 64 “zone boxes” and their associated PROLINE linear heat sensor cables. Normal system operating status is visually displayed on a 145mms/5.7 inch colour coded display in green. In a detected alarm state, the colour of the digital display will alter to red – with alarm point location and its corresponding zone box site allocated address number repeatedly and alternatively shown on the screen.
In the event simultaneous alarm signals are received at the host unit, the display will scroll through the individual alarm condition zone box address numbers and alarm point locations. Common alarm and 1-64 “zone” alarm output contacts will operate - depending on system configuration - to onward signal the detected condition to a customer central fire alarm or building management control panel (supplied by others).
An isolated serial RS232 port is incorporated for repeat of information displayed on LCD to a central panel or PC. A detected fault/trouble signal will be displayed on the screen in amber – with zone box identification and with operation of the appropriate fault/trouble output to allow identification at the central control panel as to whether this condition has occurred on the ZI-06 CAT5 wire loop or one of the Proline linear heat sensor cables/zone boxes installed. Short circuit loop fault conditions will NOT restrict continued detection capability.
ZONE BOX
Each “zone box” is supplied complete with an integral site programming switch (0-63) to allow local address number allocation at the unit installation/commissioning stage and to ensure full system design integrity and operation is maintained. LED's on each “zone box” locally indicates its operating status (Green –Normal, Amber –Fault, Red – Alarm). Under a PROLINE sensor cable open circuit fault condition, the colour of the LED will change from green to amber and a fault condition signaled to the ZI-06 “host” unit. This condition will NOT affect operation or detection capabilities of other zones/linear heat sensor cable lengths installed in the same loop. Where temperatures local to the PROLINE sensor cable exceed its alarm rating, the zone box appropriate LED will illuminate and an alarm condition will be signalled to the ZI-06 “Host” unit. This condition will similarly NOT affect operation or detection capabilities of other zones/linear heat sensor cable lengths installed in the same main loop.
SIGNAL LOOP CABLE
A maximum 20kms length of CAT5 compatible cable, FTP (Foil Shield, twisted pair, solid core) cable can be connected to the ZI-06 “Host” unit.
IP65 RATED ENCLOSURES
Polycarbonate enclosures with smoked (not solid) covers are provided as standard for the ZI-06 "Host" unit, relay boxes and field mounted zone boxes. Proline's selection of the smoked covers allows clear view of visual indicators and ensures IP rating is maintained which would be more difficult with drilled covers for local viewing of LED's AND the host unit LCD display.
Acceptable levels of EMC are higher with non drilled covers – in excess of the minimum levels specified within high electrostatic discharge test standards.
SITE PROGRAMMING/COMMISSIONING
To achieve desired output arrangements and “zone box” address identification, site programming should only be carried out using a Proline supplied programme kit and a customer supplied laptop computer/PC running a current version of Microsoft Windows®.
HAZARDOUS AREA APPLICATIONS
PROLINE "Host" unit MUST be installed within a site designated “SAFE” area. “Hazardous” Area installed zone boxes should be specified for supply in individual explosion proof enclosures. An MTL zener barrier – ATEX approval BAS01ATEX7217/Ex01E2219/3010737 is to be connected within the designated “safe” area between the ZI-06 "Host" unit and interconnecting/linear heat sensing cable.
