Interface Unit - ZI-01 & ZI-01RS

An optional interface unit for installation between the Proline "TH" digital linear temperature sensing cable and customer central fire alarm control panel. The ZI-01 can be connected directly to a maximum 2000 metres / 6,500 ft of Proline sensor cable or can be located remotely from the sensor within a security office or control room. 2 x conductors Inter-connecting cable ( maximum 50 ohms resistance) installed between the sensor cable and "remote" ZI-01 interface.
Features......
- Colour coded LCD display
- Alarm Point Location Feature – LCD will alternate display between FIRE and LOCATION
- Alarm location can be displayed in feet or metres – J7 “jumper” must be fitted for display in feet
- Simple push button calibration ensures accurate alarm point location - even where interconnecting cable is used.
- Solid State Volt-Free Output contacts for FIRE and FAULT
- ZI-01RS includes an RS232 serial link to repeat any message displayed on its LCD onto a central panel or PC
- End of line fault monitoring resistor supplied with the interface for installation at the furthest end of the associated sensor cable.
- ATEX certified zener barrier supplied where sensor cable is to be installed within Hazardous area/s.
- IP65 rated enclosure with smoked perspex cover.

Calibration
Before use the Proline ZI-01 interface MUST first be “calibrated”. Failure to calibrate correctly (or recalibrate if sensor cable or interconnecting cable lengths alter after initial installation) will result in an incorrect LCD display. Ignore any “CALE” display during calibration.
- Remove J4 pluggable fire output before calibrating to prevent alarm register at central fire panel
- Apply 24vdc to the ZI-01 interface unit
- Place a wire link across the terminals at the start of the sensor cable installation – this could be at J3 where no interconnecting is used, or at the junction box at the far end of the interconnecting cable.
- Press and hold calibration button S2 ( located bottom of the PCB) until LCD displays “CAL”.
- Remove finger from button S2
- Display should alter to FIRE 0
- Remove the wire link from the terminals.
- LCD will display “STBY” – the correct normal operating status and message
- Replace J4 pluggable fire output
SYSTEM IS NOW READY FOR USE.
LCD Displays
- Where LCD displays a static Green –STBY message , system is fully functioning.
- If more than 50 ohms interconnecting cable resistance is measured “CALE” will be displayed.
- If a high resistance is detected – NOT open circuit but greater than a value equal to 2000m “TH” sensor cable, 50 ohms interconnecting cable and end of line resistor – “HIGH” will be displayed
- Where an open circuit fault condition is detected on connected wiring – “OPEN” will be displayed
- Where an alarm condition has been detected the LCD will alternate between “FIRE” and the location of the condition at a rate of once per second.
Troubleshooting
If “CALE” is displayed, check the following:-
- ZI-01 unit has been correctly calibrated. Try re-calibrating the unit anyway!
- Any Interconnecting cable used has a resistance of less than 50 ohms
- If “FIRE-0” is displayed check wire link ( inserted during calibration) has been removed.
- If “OPEN” or “HIGH” is displayed check sensor cable and interconnecting cable (where used) for physical damage
- If “FIRE” is displayed followed by the alarm point location in metres or feet ( depending on whether J7 is fitted) physically check the location for overheat , fire or crushed sensor cable which might have caused the sensor cable conductor insulation continuity to be affected allowing sensor cable conductors to short circuit
RS232 MESSAGES
The ZI-01RS RS 232 interface will output messages on a change of state. All lines are terminated by carriage return and line feed characters. Most of these correspond to messages shown on LCD
